Gustav Larsson is a 3D artist from Sweden. Former Hyper Island student who did an internship in London at Analog Studio, where he later got offered a job. He mainly uses Houdini to create his abstract and very interesting images.

(All artists have to answer the same 10 questions.)

1. First and Last Name
Gustav Larsson

2. Where are you from? And where are you currently living?
Gothenburg, Sweden (currently living here as well)

3. What’s your main influences?
Weird things in nature! It fascinates me how much strange stuff there is in this world. Currently, I’m into generating coral like structures. So there might be something coming up revolving that 🙂

4. How was your path until this moment? How did you start?
I messed with CG back in high school and ended up moving to Stockholm to study at Hyper Island. The education was a lot more creatively focused than I thought, which was cool! I learnt a great deal about things like idea generation, team building, communication(I could go on…) and met loads of nice people. In the end,

I got to work on real stuff from day one and learnt a ton.

I decided to go the CG route anyways and got an internship with the great folks over at Analog in London.

And I couldn’t have asked for a better place to intern at! The guys at Analog are not only very talented but great people as well. I got to work on real stuff from day one and learnt a ton. I picked up Houdini during that time and now that’s mainly what I use. I ended up working there a bit after my internship ended until I realised London really just wasn’t the place for me.

Now I’m back in Gothenburg for a bit. Currently trying my hand at freelancing which is cool.

5. Where do you see yourself next?
Good question! Freelancing has been interesting but I think I thrive better in a studio situation. So I’ll probably be looking into that soon. Otherwise, I’d like to keep up with the personal work, finishing some sort of short this year is a personal goal of mine.

6. Knowing what you know now, what would be your advice for people in the same area?
For me, starting out in a smaller studio was perfect. I got to be involved in a lot of things and see how projects work in a broader perspective. So it’s definitely something I’d recommend!

…starting out in a smaller studio was perfect

7. Is there something you are terrible at :)?
Modeling! Not my strong side. I’m on the quest to generate as much as I can. Oh, and cleaning as well. My things tend to be all over the place.

8. Tell us 3 things you like

  • 1Tricking (A hobby of mine, combo of flips, kicks and twists)
  • Shitty puns
  • Dogs

9. And 3 things you don’t

  • Racism
  • People who breathe loudly when they sleep
  • Reggae

10. Last question, what are you listening at the moment (band, specific music or album)
A lot of Mac Demarco and Son Lux recently
